Gear for the savvy snowboarder
How to Choose the best heated socks:
Snowboarding can be tough on the feet, so a nice pair of high-end heated socks are one of the best products to invest in. They will easily keep your feet dry and free of blisters. It may seem odd to call a sock technical, but the benefits of high-quality heated socks are superb.
In this article we will look at some of the common sock choices.
Choose your socks based on your activity.
Athletic and snowsport socks: This category of sock can cover a wide array of types of socks from the traditional gym sock (with new moisture-wicking fabrics of course) to advanced heated socks for enjoying sports in ice cold weather.
Running socks: Surprisingly, running socks can also come in a wide variety of stills ranging from thin socks with minimal padding to thick cushioned socks for extra support while running. Some runners find that thin socks allow for their shoes to comfortably fit while others enjoy the extra padding.
Walking socks: Similar to the running sock is the walking sock. The most important feature of a walking sock is the moisture-wicking.
Casual socks: These socks are easily distinguished by their trendy and casual designs, but they are often made from high-end fabrics as well. The best socks around are made of merino wool.
Hiking socks: Hiking socks are usually found to be relatively thin to provide a better fit for hikers. With a moderate amount of cushioning in the heel of the foot and great moisture wicking properties, these midweight socks give hikers a comfortable fit with or without a liner sock layer. These socks typically have a thin top for breathability.
Backpacking socks: Backpacking socks are thicker than hiking socks and are usually made of merino wool due to the material's moisture and smell wicking properties. They also feature extra cushioning to account for the longer walking periods. For optimal comfort, many of these socks have cushioning on the top and leg of the sock as well as the bottome for an overall more comfortable experience.
Mountainerring socks: Mountaineering socks are very thick and heavyweight with extreme padding for the extreme conditions you will encounter.
Snowboarding and Skiing socks: These types of socks utilize padding where the most friction will be encountered (the shin and the underfoot) to protect you from the harsh bumps and hits that can occur. They are usually thin and not designed to provide a ton of warmth as the thick snowboard boots will do that for you. They are also designed to make it easy to manuever a snowboard.
Unique sock types
These socks can be adapted to a wide range of activities.
Liner socks: As the name sugests, liner socks are used to be worn under a pair of hiking socks to be used as an extra layer. Usually these types of socks are made from a synthetic material such as polyester that is perfect for wicking away moisture from the feet. Liner socks are easily washed and dried making them a popular choice among hikers.
Waterproof socks: There are really 2 different types of waterproof socks. There are the oversooks for backpacking on a rainy day that both deter water and allow your feet to breather, and then there are the waterproof socks that are worn in the place of normal socks. These are usually fairly thick socks with a comfortable interior and waterproof outer layer.
Heated socks: These socks are our favorite because they can keep yout feet warm even in the coldest of weather for over 14 hours straight!
